I’ve never seen anything like the Chinese when it comes to sleeping. Even after all this time I’m still amazed by some of the innovative sleeping contortionists I run into on the streets. If the ability to fall asleep absolutely anywhere at the drop of a hat ever becomes an Olympic event, China is going to sweep both the men’s and women’s competitions. We are talking Gold, Silver, Bronze and beyond.
In all positions, in all weather, on the hardest most uncomfortable of surfaces, a Chinese person can sleep. Give them air conditioning and a fluffy overstuffed sofa and brother all bets are off. Here’s a selection from 10 minutes at The IKEA store in Guangzhou…
It appears the majority of Guangzhou men are pillow huggers. Even the most burley man, asleep hugging a pillow, looks vulnerable. The one thing about all these photos is that none of these folks are dozing . They are all completely out.
So, I’m off to Yangshuo for the weekend to meet my new love… more on that later. Look at your face right now…
Peace!

When she was 15, Chan On Ki surprised her father by asking him for a camera… she’s never looked back. Nearly three years later she still has that Canon 40D, but her camera collection, not to mention her lens collection, has grown exponentially. That collection includes some classic vintage film gear with exotic names that [...]

Last week Lily and I were able to take make a quick weekend trip to Yangshuo with a few friends. A world renowned travel destination, Yangshuo is an unapologetic tourist trap bordered by stunning karst mountains on one side and the Li River on the other. Sometimes a tourist trap is just what the doctor ordered. [...]

Sure they did not faint after discovering the exorbitant prices?

Not sure what you are trying to say Fiona.
We can see people lying down comfortable in IKEA than other Household market.
Great theme for a post
Dude found your last two comments in my spam folder tonight… not sure how that happened. Welcome back… I’ll get caught up tomorrow.
So funny. I was at this IKEA at the end of June. I commented to Brian that as I walked through the bed section after lunch, there weren’t just people testing them, they were asleep. There were several fathers sitting on the ends of beds with there children full on tucked in and taking a nap. A pregnant lady was also covered up sleeping. And everyone else just walked around like nothing was out of place. Made me laugh.
Oh boy.. this does bring back memories of my trip to Ikea in Nanjing!
“Honey, do you want to go to the water park?”
“No, let’s go have a nap at IKEA.”
I read an article about this. Ikea puts up with it despite low sales hoping that in 5 years the “pillow hugging” will transform into sales.
HAHAHA, the night when Suri and I went back from HK we were so tired and also wanna do the same thing…
Hahahaha, I will be one of them if I come to IKEA. Vern and I are considering buy some furniture from the Guangzhou IKEA.
[...] was happy to discover the fine folks of Yunnan Province, like many of their countrymen, are equally adept at the fine art of sleeping. This guy was selling photos of the beautiful, [...]
